My presumptive distinction from "Progressives"
History is neutral. Agendas are, for the most part, what give history polarity. Omissions that don't fit the narrative that support ones assertions is a common tendency. I began with that because I suspect it to be a significant factor in my understanding of progressives. I emphasize, that it's my understanding. What I know is fluid , open to incorporating new information. Ideologically, I find myself in alignment with many, probably most views that I assume are also important to progressives. For progressives, our commonalities are essentially irrelevant. At least that's the impression I get. The movement is at war with dogma, but seeks to supplant dogma with its own dogma. Having a myopathy that relies upon a selective review of history, the present, and their interdependence, is what I find to be an earmark of the movement. That drives the inflexibility that's more amenable to chaos than creation. Its "all or none" theme is inimical to democracy, diplomacy, and solidarity. It is as tainted with inexplicable inclination towards and tolerance of ageism as its foes are with racism and cronyism. There is also a tendency to look at its objectives and those of its predecessors, in a vacuum. Realistically policies have been subjected to compromises. What one gets is often very different from what one envisioned. That's because others have different aspirations that are just as important to themselves. Give and take is how things ultimately get worked out. Most significant is the movement's hypersensitivity to critique. Differences quickly become irreconcilable. So while I might have progressive views, I don't possess the mentality that makes me gang material. I have evolved into someone who doesn't need to belong to any group that's fundamentally resistant to self analysis. Also I'm convinced that revolution needs to happen through alliance building, not, pointless destruction and extortion. Tactics sometimes can be effective even when there's no strategy. Strategy, however, is key to longevity and stability. Patience really is not the enemy.
